How a Toronto accounting firm went from DocuSign to BoldSign to a fully automated Firma.dev workflow built by a non-coder using ChatGPT.
The Problem
Splendid Consulting is a family accounting business in Toronto. They handle tax returns for individuals and companies, plus bookkeeping, payroll, and inventory management. Signatures come up constantly: tax agreements, engagement letters, the routine documents that need to be signed and filed before work can proceed.
For years they used DocuSign. Yavuz Mert, who joined the business a few years ago and grew into running its operations, noticed pretty quickly that the cost was hard to justify. They switched to BoldSign, a Canadian provider with a lower monthly subscription. The price was better, but the underlying problem wasn't solved.
Yavuz wanted to automate the whole process. When a task in ClickUp hit a certain status, the document should go out automatically. When the client signed, it should land in Google Drive without anyone touching it. No manual sends, no chasing, no logging into a web interface to check status. BoldSign had an API, but the pricing made it unusable: roughly $1 per signature on top of the monthly subscription. At 200 signatures a month during the slow season, that's $230 Canadian before tax season volume kicks in.

The Switch
Yavuz isn't a developer. He studied software engineering and has an interest in automation, but he builds things with AI tools rather than writing code directly. After searching for API-first e-signature options and asking ChatGPT for recommendations, Firma.dev came up.
The integration he built is straightforward by design. A ClickUp automation watches for tasks with a specific status. When it triggers, it calls the Firma.dev API and sends the document to the signer. When the document is signed, a second automation fires and downloads it to the right folder in Google Drive. The whole flow runs without anyone at Splendid touching it. It took about a day to get working, with the main friction being API key management early on. Once past that, the integration basicaly ran itself.

The Results
The month before the call, Yavuz sent around 200 signatures through Firma.dev. The bill came to roughly $14 CAD. Under BoldSign's API pricing, the same volume would have cost around $230 CAD. In peak tax season, when volume climbs to 500 or 600 signatures a month, those savings get bigger.
Beyond the cost, the bigger win is operational. Before the automation, Yavuz's sister was manually tracking every signature request: did it go out, did they sign it, does it need a follow-up? That overhead is gone. The system sends, tracks, and files everything automatically. What stood out to Yavuz about Firma.dev's approach was the API-first design itself — no drag-and-drop template builder he didn't need, just coordinates, fields, and a clean API that told him exactly where to put things.
The automation, because we don't really spend any effort for signatures right now. Before that, my sister was managing it. Now if we receive it, it's okay. If we didn't, we can just resend it with one click.
